About Project
The outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19), called for an immediate intersectoral built strategy to assist in the crisis management within Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure. The Ghana Institute of Architects, the Ghana Institute of Planners, Ghana Institution of Engineering and the Ghana Institution of Surveyors as the foremost professional bodies charged with the spatial development of resilient, healthy communities within the built environment joined efforts towards the design and construction of Ghana’s 1st IDC, as phase one of a three-phased project. The project was sited within the larger Ga East Municipal Hospital premises, with a planning area of 8,012.90m2 and existing services infrastructure from the main GEMH. The uniqueness of the project in implementing green features into design makes it the first IDC project to be EDGE certified with green rating for its energy measures, water measures and materials selection. Green design features include EPS walls system, internal courtyards, roof skylights, large bay windows, rain-water harvesting
